Bowen Therapy
WHAT IS BOWEN THERAPY?
Bowen therapy, is a form of bodywork
It involves gently stretching the fascia — the soft tissue that covers all your muscles and organs. It is a way to promote pain relief and accelerate healing by using precise and gentle, rolling hand movements. These motions focus on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments, along with the fascia and skin around them. The idea is to reduce pain by stimulating the nervous system. It is a refined and powerful bodywork that involves an original series of gentle precise moves over muscles, nerves, and connective tissue to initiate the body's own ability for self correction to occur. It is rapid in its effect and gives lasting relief from pain and discomfort regardless of the amount of time the individual suffered. Due to its gentle nature it is safe on anyone from newborns to the elderly.
The technique was created by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916–1982) in Australia. It is said to inhibit the sympathetic nervous system (your fight-or-flight response) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest-and-digest response).
